Peaches, Peaches, Everywhere!

It is peach season here in the south and today my husband and I went to our local peach orchard to pick up our year's supply of peaches. (Our yard isn't big enough to have our own peach trees.) Don't they just look delicious!

This is the start of a new year of peach cobbler, peach smoothies, peach ice cream and peaches on morning cereal! Not to mention, eating them fresh while they last! Yum!

Normally, I can about 2 bushels of peaches each year. So, any guesses what I will be doing next week?

    1. Yes! Peaches you can yourself are better then what you purchase at the store because you control what goes in the jar. Do you want peaches in heavy syrup? Light syrup or fruit juice? You can have what you want!

Also, my experience has been that local farmers are happy to tell you how they manage pest control. Look for an orchard that grows organically and you will ensure that what goes into those jars are quality peaches that are pesticide free!

Can't get that kind of information from the can on the grocery store shelf.

  2. Yum! I must admit I'm a bit jealous - we can't get fresh peaches like that here in northern Illinois. :-(

    1. I am so sorry! Unfortunately, not everything grows well in all grow zones.

But, let me tell you that in northern Illinois you can grow things I can't! Things like lilacs (I remember the beautiful lilac shrubs we had in our yard growing up in New York), tulips and all kinds of apple trees. (The kind of apples trees that do well in the south are limited.)

Each grow zone has it own advantages and disadvantages. The only suggestion I can give you is to embrace what does grow well in your area!
